POLICE SERGEANT

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

The Police Sergeant assigned as a Law Specialist provides legal guidance to law enforcement personnel conducting criminal investigations; drafts orders and documents required for search, seizure, and forfeiture activities or other investigative purposes; serves as the liaison between the Police Department and the contract attorneys handling civil litigation cases; researches court cases and legislative changes affecting law enforcement operations and notifies appropriate personnel; and conducts training sessions for police personnel, including recruits at the training academy in the areas of law and legislation as they impact the field of law enforcement. Duties are performed under the general supervision of a Police Lieutenant. Work is reviewed through observation of results and oral and written reports.
Additional Requirement:
Graduation from an accredited school of law and admission to the State Bar of Arizona.
