DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

The Police Lieutenant assigned as a Law Specialist is responsible for providing legal guidance to law enforcement personnel conducting criminal investigations; drafting orders and documents required for search, seizure, and forfeiture activities or other investigative purposes. This assignment works closely with the legislative body and lobbyist. The incumbent serves as liaison between the Police Department and contract attorneys handling civil litigation cases, researches court cases and legislative changes affecting law enforcement operations and notifies appropriate personnel. Work is performed under general supervision received from a Police Commander or other higher ranking supervisor and performance is reviewed through observation of results and oral and written reports. The incumbent supervises sworn and non-sworn police staff.

Additional Requirement:

Graduation from an accredited school of law and admission to the State Bar of Arizona.
