DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

An employee in this assignment ensures that city-wide landfills, both closed and open, are in compliance with applicable safety standards and operating policies. Supervision is exercised over inspectors classified as Solid Waste Environmental Specialists, Parks Mechanics, and Semiskilled Workers. Duties include planning, assigning, and supervising inspection activities, ensuring facilities are monitoring for methane gas and leachate levels, completing flare adjustments, inspecting water lines, coordinating technical repairs, ensuring landscaping requirements, and enforcing random load inspections. The position reports directly to the Deputy Public Works Director. The required technical understanding and in-depth knowledge of city, state, and federal regulations distinguish this assignment from the base class.
