BACKHOE/LOADER OPERATOR
ASSIGN: CONSTRUCTION CREW

JOB CODE 72042

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

The Backhoe/Loader Operator on this assignment is responsible for operating a backhoe on a Wastewater Collection crew, installing sewer mains and taps, and conducting general maintenance-related activities to the City’s sewer infrastructure. Incumbents in this assignment may be required to work in or excavate trenches up to 20 feet in depth. Individuals in this assignment work on a crew, and must be able to communicate verbally and by using hand signals in an effective manner. Requirements of this classification may include the use of various hand tools such as jackhammers and shovels. Extensive knowledge and experience in Bluestaking, OSHA shoring requirements, and Competent Person Training is mandatory. This assignment requires a Class A Commercial Driver's License with an “N” (tanker) endorsement. This classification is safety sensitive based on the potential impacts to the customer base and environment; thus, possession of a Grade II Arizona Department of Health Services Wastewater Collection Operator Certification within the first 12 months of appointment is required. This assignment differs from the base classification by the function of entering deep trenches.
