FUEL SYSTEM SUPPORT TECHNICIAN

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to perform preventive maintenance and skilled repair work on fuel sites at various City locations and to perform repair and maintenance of automotive shop support equipment. The Fuel System Support Technician works under the general supervision of the Equipment Service Foreman, who gives oral and written assignments and then checks the work through inspection or through the performance of the equipment serviced.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Services, maintains and repairs a variety of liquid and gaseous fuel equipment and mechanical shop equipment including fuel dispensers, pumps, lines, hoses, valves, and lead detection monitoring equipment, automotive lifts, bridge cranes, air and petroleum dispensing hose reels, pumps, pressure and steam cleaners, lubricating equipment, air compressors, and related equipment; keeps daily record of work orders completed.
- Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of:Skill in :
- Procedures, practices, tools and materials used in the maintenance and repair of liquid fuel (gasoline and diesel), and gaseous fuel (CNG) stations and equipment.
- Procedures, practices, tools, and materials used in the maintenance and repair of hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical shop support equipment.
- Petroleum leak detection and maintaining systems and equipment.
- Hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
Ability to:
- The care and use of shop tools and equipment utilized in carrying out assigned duties.
- Servicing, repairing and rebuilding shop support equipment.
- Servicing, repairing, and rebuilding liquid fuel dispensers, pumps, piping, valves, and vapor recovery systems.
- Servicing, repairing, and rebuilding CNG compressors and dispensers.
- Diagnosis and repair of petroleum product leak detection systems.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions in the English language.
- Read and understand technical schematics and diagnosis.
- Work cooperatively with other City employees.
- Lift arms above shoulder level to work on equipment.
- Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
Additional Requirements:
- Must possess a valid Arizona class operators license at time of hire. Positions in this class require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.
- Some positions will require the performance of other essential and marginal functions depending upon work location, assignment or shift.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Three years of experience in skilled repair work in a support equipment repair shop, including experience in the skilled maintenance and repair of liquid and gaseous rule sites. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
