TRAFFIC SIGNAL TECHNICIAN
ASSIGN: SAFETY

JOB CODE 74193

Effective Date: 06/94

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

The Traffic Signal Technician, Assign: Safety is responsible for working with safety related issues by performing research on safety issues for the Traffic Signal Shop; scheduling monthly safety meetings; providing safety training for new employees on confined space entry, hazardous gas monitoring equipment usage, PCB handling, asbestos handling and abatement, personal protective equipment, and emergency response for hazardous material spills. Other duties include maintaining material safety data sheets for solutions and compounds unique to the Traffic Signal Shop; performing weekly and monthly safety inspections, and monitoring attendance at mandatory safety meetings. This assignment differs from the class of Traffic Signal Technician with respect to the considerable additional knowledge and experience of complying with the Code of Federal Regulations for the handling of hazardous materials and the responsibilities for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the Traffic Signal Shop.
