DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

The fundamental reason this classification exists is perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks while learning to perform at the journeyman level in any or all of the building trades. The beginning apprentice will receive routine assignments under close supervision. As the employee acquires additional knowledge and skill in the trade, assignments of increasing difficulty will be given until performance and technical ability are at the journeyman level. Instructions are received orally and/or in writing, and are detailed during initial stages of the apprenticeship, but progressively become more general as experience is acquired. Performance is judged on the basis of development of the appropriate skills.
