AIRCRAFT TECHNICIAN
ASSIGN: QUALITY ASSURANCEJOB CODE 75011
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

Positions in this assignment are responsible for ensuring quality maintenance is performed on the City’s aircraft fleet. Incumbents accomplish this by inspecting aircraft and their components and verifying they are being maintained in accordance with manufacturer standards, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) standards, and other standards; inspecting completed maintenance actions; and inspecting completed maintenance documents and creating log book entries for completion of maintenance actions. As holders of the FAA-issued Inspection Authorization, these positions are authorized to inspect and approve for return to service any aircraft or related part or appliance after a major repair or major alteration, and perform annual and progressive inspections. Other duties assigned to these positions include maintaining and updating the maintenance tracking records for critical time components, FAA Airworthiness Directives, and manufacturer service bulletins; maintaining aircraft technical publications; generating work orders for maintenance to be performed on aircraft; writing Material Deficiency Reports on defective components; and completing Major Alteration and Repair Form 337 for aircraft repairs and modifications. This position also performs weight and balance operations to ensure the aircraft critical weights are within standards. Higher-level administrative, interpersonal, and organization skills, and the requirement for the Inspection Authorization differentiates this assignment from the base classification.
Additional Requirement:
Must possess Federal Aviation Administration Inspector Authorization.
