DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
Effective Date: 02/95N
The fundamental reason this classification exists is to provide work experience for temporary special program participants. Assignments are routine in nature and are evaluated based upon results. The classification of the supervisor depends on the area in which the employee is assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Types forms and other routine documents and reproduces material on a copy machine;
- Updates routine files of correspondence, forms, and reports;
- Performs simple arithmetic computations (i.e., addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages);
- Answers telephone and takes messages;
- Participates in cleaning, lubricating, and fueling automotive equipment;
- Cleans, dusts, sweeps floors, washes windows and similar tasks in public buildings and performs various yard cleaning tasks;
- Participates in the repair and maintenance of City water and sewer lines and streets;
- Participates in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and painting maintenance and repairs;
- Performs routine technical and manual tasks such as loading and unloading survey equipment and supplies;
- Drives survey grade stakes in the ground and participates in performing a survey;
- Updates survey, drafting, and related plans and record files.
- Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of:Ability to:
- Basic mathematics
- Clerical principles and practices.
- Perform simple arithmetic computations accurately.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions in the English language.
- Communicate orally with customers, clients, or public using a telephone and in a face-to-face, one-to-one setting.
- Operate standard office and graphic reproduction equipment.
- Learn job-related materials primarily through verbal instructions. This learning takes place mainly in an on-the-job training setting.
- Work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the outdoor elements.
- Work cooperatively with other employees and the public.
- Work safely without presenting a direct threat to the incumbent or others.

- Some positions will require the performance of other essential and marginal functions depending upon work location, assignment, or shift.
