DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to perform a variety of tasks while learning the skills required to qualify for an entry level service position such as Custodial Worker I, Motor Pool Attendant, or other service or semiskilled positions. Employees are assigned very routine tasks under close supervision while learning the skills required for the higher position. As experience is gained, employees are expected to work more independently. Detailed oral instructions are given with each assignment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Sweeps, mops, and scrubs floors;
• Dusts offices and washes windows and walls;
• Cleans restrooms;
• Moves office and building furniture and equipment;
• Cleans and sweeps the interiors of cars assigned to the Motor Pool;
• Cleans windshields, fills cars with gasoline, checks and replenishes oil and services batteries;
• Parks and moves City-owned vehicles so as to provide sufficient room for parking lot traffic and parking space requirements;
• Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

• The servicing requirements of automotive equipment.

Ability to:

• Follow simple oral and written instructions.
• Move objects weighing 50 lbs or more long distances (greater than 20 feet).
• Work cooperatively with others.
• Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.

Additional Requirements:

• Some positions will require the performance of other essential and marginal functions depending upon work location, assignment, or shift.
