EVENT SERVICES MANAGER
JOB CODE 80190
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to direct the Phoenix Convention Center Event Services Section through supervision of Event Services Supervisors, a Supplies Clerk II and support staff. Responsibilities include planning work assignments to meet facility user demands for activities at the Phoenix Convention Center and venues such as conventions, luncheons, commercial exhibitions, and theatrical performances and to accomplish regular custodial tasks and warehouse duties. Work schedules and nature of work vary according to facility user requirements. Work is performed independently under the general review of a Deputy Convention Center Director who reviews completed work for conformance with lessee requests and Convention Center priorities and standards.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assigns work to employees, oversees work procedures and inspects work in progress and upon completion;
- Develops and administers a budget;
- Reviews details for the setup and strike of tables, chairs, stages, riser seats, and other similar equipment for such activities as meetings, conventions, theatre events and exhibitions based upon specified general arrangements;
- Prepares work schedules based on staffing estimates and keeps time and attendance records for employees;
- Develops, implements and enforces section procedures;
- Trains and supervises employees in the safe operation of equipment, such as floor scrubbers and fork lifts, and in the routine minor maintenance of buildings and equipment;
- Ensures the availability of safe and usable tools, supplies, and equipment;
- Communicates with vendors and evaluates new products;
- Communicates with Convention Center and Venue clients to clarify needs and to make recommendations for event setup.
- Oversees staff and contracted firms in cleaning and maintenance of all department venues;
- Manages contracts related to specialty cleaning, maintenance and temporary labor;
- Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.

- Common hand tools and the use and maintenance of light motorized equipment.
- Fire codes and safety practices and procedures for custodial and convention services.
- Perform a broad range of supervisory responsibilities over others.
- Communicate in the English language by phone or in person in a one- to-one or group setting.
- Work cooperatively with other City employees and the general public.
- Observe or monitor objects, data, and people's behavior to determine compliance with prescribed operating and safety standards.
- Review or check the work products of other to ensure conformance to standards.
- Measure distance using a tape measure.
- Use graphic instructions, such as layouts, setup plans or other visual aids.
- Estimate labor or material costs from work plans.
- Comprehend and makes inferences from written material.
- Produce written documents in the English language with clearly organized thoughts using proper sentence construction, punctuation, and grammar.
- Learn job-related material primarily through structured lecture and reading which takes place mainly in a classroom setting.
- Climb ladders or steps to reach objects.
- Operate a variety of standard office equipment requiring continuous or repetitive arm-hand movements.
- Enter data or information into a computer terminal or other keyboard device.
- Operate power driven machinery such as a vacuum sweeper, buffer or other similarly sized equipment.
- Work safely without presenting a direct threat to the incumbent or others.
Additional Requirements:
- Employees in this class work irregular hours, evenings, and weekends.
- Some positions will require the performance of other essential and marginal functions depending upon work location, assignment or shift.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Five years of experience in convention center, theater, or custodial work, including one year of supervisory experience. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
