CUSTODIAL SUPERVISOR II

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to plan, assign and supervise the work of an entire custodial force engaged in cleaning activities in a multiple shift cleaning operation in a group of public buildings. Specific oral and written instructions accompany major assignments but the employee makes independent decisions and is responsible for planning and organizing details in the execution of instructions. The class of Custodial Supervisor II is distinguished from Custodial Supervisor I by the policy making authority and administrative duties vested in the Supervisor II level. Work is performed under the general direction of an Aviation Supervisor and work is reviewed on the basis of results obtained.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Supervises Custodial Workers and Custodial Supervisors I engaged in keeping buildings, equipment, and premises clean and orderly;
- Conducts periodic inspections of buildings to review work standards;
- Plans and supervises employee safety and training programs;
- Prepares written disciplinary actions, memos, and employee performance appraisals;
- Monitors expenditures;
- Acts as liaison with tenants, contractors, and vendors;
- Interacts with other divisions regarding terminal conditions;
- Acts as subject matter expert in preparing contracts;
- Reads and interprets contracts and policies;
- Attends terminal activities to ensure that the event does not obstruct travelers or equipment;
- Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

- Use and care of wet and dry vacuum cleaners, floor buffing machines, mop wringers, mops, brushes, soaps, floor stripping materials, cleaning fluids, floor waxes, and other materials and equipment related to the custodial care of buildings.
- Supervisory practices and personnel administration.
- Hazards and precautionary measures peculiar to custodial operations.
- Communicate in the English language in writing and orally with individuals in a face-to-face, one-on-one or group setting or by telephone.
- Produce documents written in the English language with clearly organized thoughts using proper sentence construction, punctuation, and grammar.
- Perform a broad range of supervisory responsibility over a multi-shift operation.
- Observe, compare, or monitor data, objects and people's behavior to determine compliance to safety and operating standards.
- Perform physical inventories.
- Work cooperatively with other City employees and the public.
- Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
- Walk long distances and remain in a standing position for extended periods.
- Climb multilevel stairwells.
Additional Requirements:
- Some positions will require the performance of other essential and marginal functions depending upon work assignment, location or shift.
- Some positions require the use of a personal or City vehicle on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Three years of experience in building custodial work, including one year of supervisory experience over a detail of custodial workers on an assigned shift. Other combinations of experience and education which meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
