City Prosecutor's Office
Appeals Bureau

Scales of Justice The Appeals Bureau represents the Prosecutor's Office on motions and appeals in Phoenix Municipal Court, Maricopa County Superior Court, the Court of Appeals, and, on occasion, the Arizona Supreme Court and Federal District Court.

The eight Appeals Bureau attorneys prepare approximately 600 substantive motions/responses and cover 300 oral arguments/hearings every year.

Although most attorneys acquire experience in other bureaus before being assigned to Appeals, this Bureau conducts its own extensive training. As a repository of legal expertise, the Bureau is often called upon to assist other Office attorneys in court. Other jurisdictions also call on the City of Phoenix Appeals Bureau for legal or procedural advice. When appropriate, the Bureau files amicus briefs on important issues originating outside Phoenix.

Our mission is to fairly, efficiently, and justly prosecute those who violate the law. We seek justice for crime victim and endeavor to make Phoenix a safer community in which to live.
