A Message from the City Attorney
Greetings from the City of Phoenix Law Department. The Law Department is comprised of approximately 100 attorneys and 150 support staff all of whom are diligent, hard working public servants. The Law Department provides a wide array of legal services to City government and the citizens of this community. The Law Department's Prosecutor's Office is responsible for prosecuting misdemeanor offenses, handling approximately 55,000 cases per year. The Prosecutor's Office is one of the most innovative in the country, implementing community prosecution programs that reduce crime and which serve as a model for other prosecuting agencies throughout the country. In addition, the Law Department's Civil Division is responsible for defending the City in civil lawsuits as well as providing legal advice to the Mayor, City Council, City management and all of the City's departments.
