Metro North Corporate Park, a major project in the city's Brownfields Land Recycling Program, was the National Phoenix Award first runner up at a recent National Brownfields Conference in Atlantic City.
The 160-acre site, containing one million square feet of buildings, was revitalized by Dimension Financial & Realty Investments, Inc. The mixed-use property, located at 13450 N. Black Canyon Highway, has an apartment complex, Competition Friction, Fry's Electronic, retail stores and a one-million-square-foot office building. Soon to be built on the property are a restaurant, hotel and Lowe's Home Improvement. The project is the single largest brownfields re-development site in the city.
The award, sponsored by various government agencies and private companies, recognizes excellence in brownfield redevelopment.
Brownfields are abandoned, idled or underused industrial and commercial facilities where expansion or redevelopment is complicated by real or perceived environmental contamination. The city of Phoenix Office of Environmental Programs offers technical assistance, access to regulatory contacts and financial resources to property owners, business owners or developers.
