Washington Appointed Special Assistant City Manager

Manager Frank Fairbanks today announced that Alton Washington has been promoted
to special assistant city manager.
Washington has served as deputy city manager for more than three years, where
he has managed strategies and activities for various city departments, including
Parks, Recreation and Library, Planning, Development Services and Environmental
Programs.
Prior to being named deputy city manager, Washington served as director
of the city's Human Services Department for eight years and deputy director
of the city's Public Works Department. Before joining the city, he worked
for the State of Arizona as deputy director for the Department of Administration,
director of the Governor's Office of Affirmative Action, and director of administrative
services for the Economic Planning and Development Office.
"Alton has the skills, knowledge and expertise to succeed as special assistant
city manager," said Fairbanks.
"His years of experience in local and state governments will continue to
be an asset to our organization."
Washington earned a master's degree in public administration and a bachelor's
degree in political science from Arizona State University. He serves on the
Salvation Army Advisory Board, Valley of the Sun United Way board of directors
and Herberger Theatre board of directors.
