Phoenix last week became the first city government in the Valley to
offer an on-site childcare facility for its employees.
"Phoenix always has tried to lead by example, not just as a governing
agency, but also as an employer," District 3 Councilwoman Peggy Bilsten
said. "This facility will have a tremendously positive impact on the
quality of life of the employees who choose to use it."
Located about one block from city hall, the Copper Sun Child Development
can accommodate 132 children from ages 6 weeks to 5 years or until they
start kindergarten. The facility features 11 classrooms and 12,000 square
feet of outdoor play space. It is managed by Easter Seals Arizona. Easter
Seals operates more than 30 centers nationwide.
