Phoenix Voters Approve All Twelve Bond Packages

March 14, 2001

On Election Day, City of Phoenix voters considered twelve propositions that will provide community improvements for Phoenix over the next five years. All of the proposed funding packages were approved by the 92,987 voters that participated in the election. The approved propositions are as follows:

Proposition 1 - Police protection facilities and equipment - $78.8 million
Proposition 2 - Police, fire and city computer technology - $125.3 million
Proposition 3 - Facilities to improve the environment and clean-up of polluted sites - $24.8 million.
Proposition 4 - Preserving Phoenix Heritage - $12 million
Proposition 5 - Parks, open space and recreational facilities - $77 million
Proposition 6 - Educational, youth and family cultural facilities - $66.3 million
Proposition 7 - New and improved library facilities - $33 million
Proposition 8 - Fire protection facilities and equipment - $61.5 million
Proposition 9 - Neighborhood protection and senior centers - $74 million
Proposition 10 - Affordable housing for seniors and shelter for low income and homeless - $43.7 million
Proposition 11 - Storm sewers - $66 million Proposition 12 - Street improvements - $91.5 million

These are the unofficial election results for the 2001 Special Bond Election. Results for the twelve bond propositions will be official after the March 22 canvas vote. All of the approved expenditures will be carefully monitored by the 2001 Bond Executive Committee, a citizen oversight group, and none of these propositions require an increase in the current tax rate.
