Street Modernization Projects Identified
May 31, 2001
Nine potential locations for improving pedestrian-friendliness on Phoenix roadways have been identified by street transportation officials.
The proposed improvements are part of the annual Street Modernization Program and are done at no cost to property owners.
The goal of the program is to upgrade existing local and collector streets that are lacking curbs, gutters and sidewalks. Each year, three to five miles of Phoenix streets are improved through the program. This month, the City Council will consider the following locations:
- 63rd Avenue, Cambridge Avenue to Thomas Road
- 89th Avenue, Campbell Avenue to Meadowbrook Street
- Campbell Avenue, 30th to 32nd streets
- Earll Drive, 52nd to 54th streets
- Grovers Avenue, 22nd to 23rd street
- Missouri Avenue, 27th Avenue to Interstate 17
- Mountain View Road, 24th to 26th streets
- Paradise Lane, 32nd to 34th streets
- Roosevelt Street, 42nd to 41st avenues
After locations are approved by City Council, designs will be completed in 2001-2002 and construction will take place between 2002 and 2004.
To be included on the list, proposed sites are prioritized using a criteria that includes the street's classification of local or collector, availability of right-of-way, existing land use of nearby properties, condition of the street and level of neighborhood support. Private streets are not eligible for the program.
