Employers Honored For Workforce Development Partnerships

More than 135 local businesses and organizations will be recognized for their efforts to provide services for job seekers, dislocated workers and youth at the annual Employer Recognition dinner 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, at the Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak, 7677 N. 16th St. at Morton Avenue.
These employers participated in job fairs, provided workshops at local One Stop Centers, participated in on-the-job training programs, provided monetary contributions or in-kind services, participated in school-to-work activities and internships for youth and created innovative service programs in partnership with the city of Phoenix Workforce Information Network (PWIN) and the Maricopa Workforce Connection, Inc.
Some of the companies and organizations being recognized include Volunteer Center Welfare to Work Program, Arizona State Department of Administration Human Resources, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona, Mission Linen Service, Hanjin Shipping, TOSCO Marketing Company, Ben Miranda & Associates and the cities of Phoenix, Mesa, Tempe and Glendale.
The Workforce Investment Act of 1998, that replaced the Job Training Partnership Act, helps to develop and train qualified workers for Valley employers. Twelve One Stop Centers, which provide a single location for job seekers to find employment, training and education, have been created in the metropolitan Phoenix area. These programs and services are funded by the U.S. Department of Labor.
