2002 Copper Wing Award Winners

More than 50 films from around the globe, including 12 features making their world and Arizona premieres, vied for the coveted Copper Wing award at the second annual Phoenix Film Festival this past weekend.
"I didn't think it would be possible for the festival to get better than it was last year, but it certainly turned out that way," said Chris LaMont, executive director and co-founder of the festival. "We had more people attending, bigger celebrities and an incredible slate of films."
The judge's choice for Best Picture went to Do It For Uncle Manny,
directed by Adam Baratta, with the Audience Award for Best Picture bestowed
on Lady Warriors, directed by John C. P. Goheen.
The Copper Wing for Best Director went to Dan Bootzen for Life/Drawing.
Best Screenplay went to Scott Benefiel for The Month of August. Best
Acting Ensemble honors were earned by the cast of Dead Dogs Lie, directed
by Craig Singer.
Mark Jaggers, Chris Rodgers and Bryce Prevatte took home the Best Arizona
Filmmaker award for Romance. In the short film categories, Return to Sender,
directed by Helen Kaplan earned Best Short Film; Speed City, directed by Sylvia
Wilczynski was named as Best Documentary Short Film; and Romance directed
by Mark Jaggers earned Best Arizona Short Film.
In the student categories, Peeping Tom directed by Jason Todd Ipson
was named Best College Short Film and Taken Away directed by Lee Anthony
Cipolla took home Best High School/Grade School Short Film honors.
For his dedication and contributions to the success of the Phoenix Film
Festival, Paul Skiera was presented with the Phoenix Film Foundation Board
of Directors Award.
