April 25, 2002
The City of Phoenix Community and Economic Development Department was named
the Arizona Small Business Advocate of the Year by the Arizona Small Business
Association during its ninth annual Enterprise Breakfast at the Phoenix Civic
Plaza on April 24.
Specifically, the department's Small Business Development Program was recognized
for the services it provides to and resources it has available for small businesses
in Phoenix.
Since 2000 the program has:
· Helped more than 300 small businesses create over 500 new jobs.
· Provided more than $1.8 million in collateral that leveraged $9 million
in loans.
· Provided nearly 6,000 hours in assistance to small businesses.
· Conducted on site visits to more than 600 small businesses.
"Our long-standing commitment to promoting and supporting small businesses
is at the heart of our success," said Pat Grady, community and economic development
director. "This recognition by the Arizona Small Business Association motivates
us even more to keep providing quality service to the backbone of our economy
- small businesses."
