Employers Honored for Workforce Development Partnerships

More than 100 local businesses and organizations will be recognized for their partnership and continuous improvement efforts with Maricopa Workforce Connections and Phoenix Workforce Connection at the annual Employer Recognition dinner 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, at the Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak, 7677 N. 16th St., at Morton Avenue.
These employers have participated in job fairs and on-the-job training programs, provided workshops at local OneStop Centers and monetary contributions or in-kind services, participated in school-to-work activities and internships for youth and created innovative service programs in partnership with the city of Phoenix and Maricopa County.
Some of the companies and organizations being recognized include Fry's Food & Drug, Banner Health, Macayo's Mexican Kitchen, St. Joseph's Hospital, Community Information and Referral, Marcos de Niza High School, Target Distribution Center and The Arizona Republic.

Attendees will hear from keynote speaker Tim Pfeiffer, regional vice president of
Home Depot, who will discuss workforce development strategies that have proved beneficial to
his company. He is responsible for overseeing 48 regional stores including 28 in the Phoenix
market and 10 others throughout Arizona.
The Workforce Investment Act of 1998 helps to develop and train qualified workers for Valley employers. Twelve OneStop Centers, which provide a single location for job seekers to find employment, training and education, have been created in Maricopa County. These
programs and services are funded by the U.S. Department of Labor.
