Phoenix Urban Forestry Donates Sept. 11 Trees To Schools

Sept. 10, 2002

The Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department's Urban Forestry program provided live trees to 52 schools for their Sept. 11 memorial events.

The program donated 15-gallon evergreen elm, live oak, ash and palo brea trees to charter and public schools throughout the city. The schools will honor victims of the terrorist attacks during tree-planting ceremonies Wednesday.

In addition to a free tree, John Jacobs School, 14421 N. 23rd Ave., will plant two 24-inch box trees purchased through Urban Forestry's matching-cost program.
