Don't Be A Couch Potato…Register for High School!

Aug. 13, 2004

Do you know someone who hasn't registered for high school? It's not too late! Plan to attend a one-stop high school registration event from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17, at the Burton Barr Central Library, 1221 N. Central Ave.

Staff from more than 40 high schools will be in attendance to register students for the school of their choice, including those that offer resources to bilingual students. City staff will be on hand to answer questions and provide additional resources to the Latino community. Valley Metro staff also will be available to help students find the best route to school.

"Our goal is to help schools bring back students to school. This is another example of the city of Phoenix using its resources to help reduce the dropout rate in Phoenix," said Councilman Greg Stanton, District 6, and chairman of the City Council Education Subcommittee.

The event is sponsored by know99 Television, the city of Phoenix youth and education cable channel, which can be seen in Phoenix, Glendale, Tempe and parts of Scottsdale on Cox Cable channel 99 and Qwest Cable channel 20. The station telecasts a variety of educational programs that include math, science, foreign languages and other educational programs for learners of all ages.

For more information about the event, call 602-534-5669.
