Committee of Residents To Study Sonoran Parkway

Responding to concerns of area residents following an Aug. 19th meeting
regarding the alignment of the Sonoran Parkway, Phoenix City Councilwoman
Peggy Neely is helping to create a special committee of northeast Phoenix
residents to study plans for the Parkway's east/west connections.
Councilwoman Neely said she will work with the City Manager's office and
the Street Transportation Department to form a study committee made of representatives
from all of the affected communities - Desert Ridge, Tatum Highlands, Tatum
Ranch and the neighborhoods in Dove Valley.
"It is important that we hear from all residents in the area, and make sure
that representatives of all of the affected communities serve on the committee,"
she said.
The first action required by the council would be the acquisition of a portion
of the land needed to build the parkway, which is at least 10 years away from
development.
Acquiring this portion of the land for the right of way property, however,
does not approve the connections of the parkway, but allows the city to start
purchasing and protecting land for the Sonoran Preserve.
Councilwoman Neely has requested that the purchase of the right-of-way not
be placed on the Council's August 31st agenda, and will not consider putting
it on a future agenda until her office and the Street Transportation Department
have had some more time to educate the community on this issue.
