Acting Phoenix Aviation Director Receives Minority Advocate Award
Phoenix, Arizona -- David Cavazos, Acting Aviation Director for the City of Phoenix, will be named Minority Advocate of the Year tonight by the United Latino Business Coalition. The award is presented each year to an individual who has advocated on behalf of minority owned businesses. Milagros “Millie” Gonzalez, Chairperson of the ULBC, says “David Cavazos makes sure everyone doing business with Sky Harbor Airport knows that the City is serious about its commitment to diversity in contracting.”
Under Cavazos’ leadership, 63 percent of the contracts in Phase One of Sky Harbor’s Terminal 4 redevelopment have gone to women, minority-owned, or disadvantaged businesses. In addition, 20 percent of the construction contracts for Sky Harbor’s Rental Car Center have been awarded to minority and women owned businesses. The ULBC credits Cavazos with constantly looking for ways to improve opportunities for small, minority owned businesses.
Cavazos will receive the award at the ULBC’s annual Posadas Navidena & Awards Dinner. The ULBC supports the Latino businesses community through training, networking opportunities, and support of other minority business organizations.
