Dec. 9, 2004

Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon, the City Council and the entire city organization are grieving the loss of City Finance Director Kevin Keogh, who passed away Dec. 8. The following is a statement from City Manager Frank Fairbanks to city employees:

"I write this e-mail to you with a very heavy heart. Last night, we learned that Kevin Keogh, the city's finance director, was killed in a car accident. Scottsdale Police are investigating the accident.

Kevin was a bright, talented and hard-working employee who started his career with the city in 1976 as a management intern. Over the years, he worked his way up through the organization, and has been the city's Chief Financial Officer.

Kevin was the one you wanted on your team when you had a tough problem to analyze and decide on the best solution. He earned numerous awards throughout his career with the city, such as "Best Finance Director in the Country" and one of the top financial innovators in the country by City and State magazine.

One of Kevin's many talents is that he surrounded himself with bright and talented employees who will carry on the important work that the Finance Department performs for the city and the entire community.

Kevin contracted a tropical disease a few years ago. His wife shared with me that the disease had come back in the last two months and was affecting many parts of his life.

Please join me in taking a moment to remember Kevin and all of his contributions to the city. His presence and contributions will be greatly missed."
