Gay and Lesbian Chamber Honors Phoenix Public Library

The Greater Phoenix Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce will present its Community Ally Award to Phoenix Public Library at its annual awards dinner Saturday, May 15.

The library will share the award with another organization, No Longer Silent - Clergy for Justice. Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon and his wife Christa Severns are the event's co-chairs and will attend the ceremony at the Hyatt Regency Phoenix.

The Community Ally Award is given to organizations that have supported the gay and lesbian business community by demonstrating support for diversity and equality. In March, Burton Barr Central Library hosted "Nazi Persecution of Homosexuals, 1933-1945," a traveling exhibit from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.

The following awards also will be presented:

  • Corporate Ally - Bank One
  • Businessmen of the Year - Tom Jetland and Mark Dillon of Ibiza Café.
  • Businesswoman of the Year - Jan Dahl of Realty Executives
  • Non-profit Organization of the Year - Body Positive
  • Philanthropic Award - Chute
  • President's Award - Marti McElroy
