Phx 11 Captures National Awards

Phoenix Channel 11, the city's news and information station, was recently
recognized with five awards at the 19th annual National Association of Telecommunications
Officers and Advisors (NATOA).
NATOA is composed of local government agencies, staff and public officials,
as well as consultants, attorneys and engineers who work with local governments
on their telecommunications needs. This association recognized PHX 11 in the
following categories:
- Community Event Coverage: second place for programming featuring the
Japanese Friendship Garden and Arizona Falls.
- Profile of a city/county department: third place for Destination: Phoenix
Sky Harbor, a news-magazine show which takes viewers behind the scenes at
the world's fifth busiest airport.
- Community Awareness: third place for WATERways, produced by the Water
Services Department, this program highlights various departmental operations.
- Special Audience: Daring Adventures, a comprehensive look at the Parks
and Recreation Department program that provides a wide range of outdoor
recreational activities for youths and adults with physical or mental challenges.
- Municipal Channel Promotion: Where We Live station identification.
PHX 11 also received honorable mentions for its coverage on Soar, a program
produced by the Aviation Department and Steele Indian School Park Concert
Series.
At a separate award ceremony, the airport's quarterly television program,
Destination: Phoenix Sky Harbor, recently captured third place in the Airports
Council International-North America 2004 Excellence in Marketing and Communications
Contest.
The show received the honor in the Video and Film Productions category, competing
with 54 other airports from the United States and Canada.
Destination: Phoenix Sky Harbor is a news-magazine show which takes viewers
behind the scenes at the world's fifth busiest airport. Produced by PHX 11
and the City of Phoenix Aviation Department, the program also offers travel
tips and provides updates on projects at Sky Harbor. It airs on PHX 11, and
several other city channels around the state of Arizona.
"The hard work and professionalism our staff puts into each program provides
our viewers with quality programs that educate, inform and entertain," said
