Phoenix Channel 11, the city's news and information station, was recently recognized with five awards at the 19th annual National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors (NATOA).

NATOA is composed of local government agencies, staff and public officials, as well as consultants, attorneys and engineers who work with local governments on their telecommunications needs. This association recognized PHX 11 in the following categories:

  • Community Event Coverage: second place for programming featuring the Japanese Friendship Garden and Arizona Falls.
  • Profile of a city/county department: third place for Destination: Phoenix Sky Harbor, a news-magazine show which takes viewers behind the scenes at the world's fifth busiest airport.
  • Community Awareness: third place for WATERways, produced by the Water Services Department, this program highlights various departmental operations.
  • Special Audience: Daring Adventures, a comprehensive look at the Parks and Recreation Department program that provides a wide range of outdoor recreational activities for youths and adults with physical or mental challenges.
  • Municipal Channel Promotion: Where We Live station identification.

PHX 11 also received honorable mentions for its coverage on Soar, a program produced by the Aviation Department and Steele Indian School Park Concert Series.

At a separate award ceremony, the airport's quarterly television program, Destination: Phoenix Sky Harbor, recently captured third place in the Airports Council International-North America 2004 Excellence in Marketing and Communications Contest.

The show received the honor in the Video and Film Productions category, competing with 54 other airports from the United States and Canada.

Destination: Phoenix Sky Harbor is a news-magazine show which takes viewers behind the scenes at the world's fifth busiest airport. Produced by PHX 11 and the City of Phoenix Aviation Department, the program also offers travel tips and provides updates on projects at Sky Harbor. It airs on PHX 11, and several other city channels around the state of Arizona.

"The hard work and professionalism our staff puts into each program provides our viewers with quality programs that educate, inform and entertain," said PHX 11 Station Manager Deborah Sedillo Dugan.
