NEWS RELEASE - PHOENIX PROJECTS WIN VALLEY FORWARD AWARDS City of Phoenix, Arizona, Official Municipal Web site - City News

Phoenix Projects Win Valley Forward Awards

Sept. 24, 2004

This year's Valley Forward Environmental Excellence Awards (EEA) program recognized two city of Phoenix Engineering and Architectural Services (EAS) projects.

The EEA program honors significant contributions to the environment in 20 categories.

Fire Station #50 won the Crescordia Award and the Phoenix Municipal Stadium remodeling project won a Merit Award in the Building and Structures and Site Development and Landscape categories, respectively.

The Crescordia Award is the organization's top honor.

Fire Station #50 is the first Valley building to receive LEEDŽ v2 (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. Environmental building materials and natural lighting resulted in a 30 percent energy savings, and the indigenous desert landscape will result in water conservation. The site, which was previously a barren landfill used for highway construction staging, now stands as a point of pride and a model for environmentally sensitive building.
