Phoenix Receives Client Award at AIA Annual Banquet
Sept. 24, 2004
The Arizona Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) honored
the city of Phoenix with the prestigious Client Award at the chapter's annual
banquet. A jury of Arizona Fellows, chaired by Penny Posedly, FAIA, selected
the city for the award for the IGC/TGEN construction project.
Assistant City Manager Sheryl Sculley accepted the award on behalf of the
city.
The city was nominated for the award by the SmithGroup, the architectural
firm in charge of designing the International Genomics Consortium/Translational
Genomics Research Institute (IGC/TGen) Headquarters in downtown Phoenix.
The submittal not only highlighted the IGC/TGen facility, but also the Phoenix
Bioscience Center at Copper Square, the Arizona Biomedical Collaborative Building,
as well as conceptual plans for Arizona State University's "ASU Phoenix" campus.
The purpose of the Client Award is to honor an individual, firm or public
institution that exemplifies the significant contribution of the client to
the quality of the built environment through consistent encouragement and
support of good design.
To be eligible, individuals, firms and institutions who have commissioned
architectural design of any nature, within Arizona; including urban or site
planning, the design of buildings or groups of buildings, landscapes or interiors,
must be nominated by an AIA Arizona member, associate or affiliate in good
standing.
