Phoenix Appoints New City Engineer

City Manager Frank Fairbanks has appointed Wylie Bearup, Ph.D., as the new
City Engineer to oversee the Engineering and Architectural Services Department
(EAS).
Bearup, 50, former deputy director of the department, will be responsible
for 108 staff members with an annual operating budget of $11,952,000.
EAS manages all engineering and architectural work for the city, including
design and construction of the city's capital improvement projects.
"Wylie's experience and education are a very significant asset to Phoenix
and I look forward to working with him in his new role," said George Flores,
deputy city manager.
Bearup's career spans more than two decades within the engineering field.
He has previously held managerial positions with the Army Corps of Engineers,
Arizona State University and the city of Phoenix, since 1999.
He earned a doctorate in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois
and is a registered professional engineer within the state of Arizona. Bearup
also has memberships with the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Society
of American Military Engineers, American Public Works Association, the Design-Build
Institute of America and the Construction Management Association of America.
