District 5 Councilman Claude Mattox was recently honored with an "Award of Excellence" from the Arizona School Public Relations Association (ASPRA). The ASPRA*tions award, presented at the organization's annual luncheon, recognized the councilman's contributions to public education.
Councilman Mattox has worked closely with the Alhambra School District in west Phoenix. Representatives from the district pointed to Mattox's dedication in attending school events and school community functions; his work on a new program called "Let's Do Lunch," that pairs business people and seventh-grade students at Cordova Middle School; and his help with getting permits to start important school construction projects.
"Councilman Mattox is a true advocate for our district and public education," said Alhambra's Superintendent Dr. Jim Rice. "We can always count on him to assist us in any way."
"I am honored to be recognized for working with our youth and their education," said Mattox. "These students are our future. Our success in Phoenix communities depends on their success in the classroom. It is a pleasure to encourage them to look at their future opportunities and to work hard to get a good education."
