Councilmember Michael Johnson has been elected to the Board of Directors of the National League of Cities (NLC). The announcement came at the end of NLC's 2006 Congress of Cities held in Reno, Nev. earlier in December, where approximately 3,500 local government officials convened. Councilmember Johnson is one of 20 new board members who will join 20 returning members to assist in shaping priorities and directing the advocacy, research and membership activities of NLC in the upcoming year.
Councilmember Johnson also was selected to the NLC International Programs Committee and as board member at large for the National Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials (NBC-LEO).
"I am both humbled and honored to take on these new leadership roles," said Johnson. "And I am eager to begin tackling the issues and challenges ahead."
The National League of Cities is the oldest and largest national organization representing municipal governments throughout the United States. NLC serves as a resource and advocate for 19,000 U.S. cities serving 218 million people. For a complete list of the Board of Directors visit
