City Manager Frank Fairbanks today named Bob Wingenroth as the city of Phoenix Finance Department director. Wingenroth, who has served as the Finance Department interim director for 1 1/2 years, will manage 310 employees and a budget of $24.7 million.
“Bob has extensive experience with the city’s financial operations and recently issued nearly $2 billion in municipal bonds,” said Fairbanks.
“He also is a team builder, a strategic leader and has a strong commitment to diversity both personally and professionally.”
Wingenroth has worked with the city for 26 years, primarily in the City Auditor Department as the city auditor for six years and deputy city auditor for nine years. In that capacity, he conducted financial, computer, rate and fee, program evaluation and facilitation projects citywide.
Wingenroth is a member of the Phoenix Elementary School District Superintendent’s Advisory Committee for capital and bond oversight, and a board member for several Phoenix programs involving New Market Tax Credits, Employee’s Retirement System and the Downtown Phoenix Hotel.
He earned both his bachelor’s degree in accounting and master’s degree in business administration from Arizona State University. He also is a certified public accountant in the state of Arizona.
