City Manager Frank Fairbanks today named Kim Dorney the city’s Housing Department director. Dorney, who has served as Housing Department acting director and acting assistant director for 1½ years, will manage 137 employees and a $77 million budget.
“Kim has extensive experience in the housing, neighborhoods and economic development areas,” said Fairbanks.
“We’re confident her management and communication skills will keep moving the department and the community forward in the right direction.”
Dorney has more than 23 years of experience with the city, working primarily in the Housing, Neighborhood Services and Community and Economic Development departments. Using federal funds, other grants and leveraged private financing, she has been involved in construction or rehabilitation of thousands of homes for Phoenix residents.
Dorney, who started her career at the city as a management intern in 1983, is a member of the International City/County Management Association, American Society for Public Administration, National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials and the National Community Development Association.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in Public Administration from University of the Pacific in Stockton, Calif., and a Master of Public Affairs from Indiana University.
