The Maricopa Association of Governments Regional Council has approved building the I-17/Dove Valley Road traffic interchange at the same time as the planned widening of I-17 from the Loop 101 to the Carefree Highway. The project will be advanced, accelerating the connection of Dove Valley Road with the I-17 by 15 years, making it easier for north Phoenix residents to travel in the area. Construction is scheduled to begin on both projects in 2007, with completion expected by the end of 2009.
The city of Phoenix is forwarding the money to the state for the Dove Valley Road interchange, with the state repaying the "loan" in the future.
“I am encouraged about MAG, ADOT and the city working together to get the I-17/Dove Valley Road interchange built as quickly as possible,” Phoenix District 2 Councilwoman Peggy Neely said. “The major improvements will make rides to school, work and home easier for thousands of north Valley residents. We are looking forward to the convenience and ease of traffic flow this interchange will provide to our community and the entire region.”
