Phoenix Fire Chief Bob Khan is one of 21 fire chiefs from around the world invited to attend the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Urban Fire Forum, Oct. 19 to 22 in Boston.
The forum will focus on firefighting strategic planning and preparing the next generation of firefighting leaders. The event is conducted each year by the NFPA, an international nonprofit group organized to reduce the worldwide burden of fire and hazards on the quality of life.
"Chief Khan heads up a department with a world-wide reputation," said NFPA Metro Chiefs Secretary Russ Sanders. "We look forward to including Chief Khan among the members of this diverse group of dynamic fire service leaders who make up the NFPA Urban Fire forum."
Khan oversees a department of nearly 2,000 members, 52 fire stations and a $240 million annual budget.
Khan joined the Phoenix Fire Department in 1982, after graduating from Arizona State University. He also is a graduate of the John F. Kennedy School of Government’s Crisis Management program, the MIT Negotiating Labor Agreement program and Arizona State University Fire Science Institute.
