The city’s education cable television station, know99, received two awards from the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) in the Student Award for Excellence regional competition. The station won awards in two categories — the documentary category for “Route 66 - The Mother Road,” created by Adam Falk and the news category for the program, “Tom Brokaw” created by Hutch Balholm.
Both student winners have an interest in broadcast journalism and have participated in know99 programs. Falk, a student at South Mountain High School, and Balholm, a Phoenix Country Day High School student, are student reporters for know99.
The Rocky Mountain Region student award winners are now eligible for recognition at the national level. A blue-ribbon panel will select seven national awardees that will be presented awards at a ceremony in New York City, May 1.
The Student Awards for Excellence is made possible by the Foundation of The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences which promotes best practices to high school students. It is intended to be an incentive for the pursuit of excellence in television journalism and to focus public attention on outstanding achievements in television produced by high school students.
