Councilman Tom Simplot invites the public to a special reception to celebrate the unveiling of the Golden Gate Community Center’s “Photo-Vision” exhibition at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 27, at the Phoenix City Hall atrium, 200 W. Washington St.
Photo-Vision is a unique photography project created by a group of young people who attend the Golden Gate Center. Photo-Vision participants were outfitted with 35 mm cameras and asked to go out into their communities and photograph what is important in their lives. The result is an impressive combination of images related to family, friends and neighborhood realities.
“We wanted to give our kids a voice through photography and the results of the project have amazed all of us,” said Phyllis Habib, project coordinator at Golden Gate.
Parking for the reception is available at the Third Avenue Garage on the southwest corner of Third Avenue and Washington Street and parking garage tickets will be validated. The Photo-Vision exhibition will remain in the City Hall atrium until Friday, Sept. 7, for the public to enjoy. Afterwards, the exhibit will travel to the Governor’s office and a variety of sites throughout Phoenix before it goes back on permanent display at Golden Gate.
