The Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department is excited to announce the renaming of one of its most popular community centers – the Washington Adult Center is now the Washington Activity Center. This new name better reflects the community it serves and the new programs that will be offered to participants of all ages.
Since its opening in 1969, the majority of programs offered by the center, located at 2240 W. Citrus Way, were designed for those 18 years of age and older. This name change represents the department’s commitment to providing creative and quality youth programs. Along with its new name, the Washington Activity Center now will offer new classes such as Parent & Baby Pilates, Wee Can Dance Two, Parent & Tot Music Time, WAC-Y Science Experiments and piano classes.
In addition to the new youth programs, the center will continue to offer a full range of lifelong learning courses for adults. Those interested in these and any other department programs can register online by going to phoenix.gov/parks and clicking on the Classes and Programs link.
The Washington Activity Center will soon boast a gymnasium that is currently under construction. When completed at the end of 2007, the community will enjoy basketball and volleyball courts, a fitness room and a dance studio.
