Councilman Greg Stanton recognized colleague Councilman Doug Lingner today for his work on housing issues and efforts to keep the city’s Watkins Overflow shelter open year round.
Stanton presented Lingner with a plaque at the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) Continuum of Care Regional Committee on Homelessness meeting. Craig Echeveste, Lingner’s council assistant, accepted the award on the councilman’s behalf.
"Doug has made providing housing opportunities for folks in need a top priority throughout his 12 years on the City Council," Stanton said. "This award is a big thanks for his outstanding leadership in this critical area."
During his time on the City Council, Lingner dedicated many years to housing issues as chair and member of the Housing Subcommittee.
Stanton chairs the MAG Continuum of Care Regional Committee on Homelessness, which oversees development plans to address homelessness region wide. In addition, the committee coordinates the annual funding application submitted to the federal government, which has provided millions of dollars to agencies serving the most vulnerable homeless people.
