Sky Harbor Welcomes Explosive Detection Dogs

Phoenix, Arizona – Two new explosive detection canines joined the Phoenix Police Airport Bureau at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport this week.

Before beginning their airport assignment, “Nero” and “Aldo,” two highly-trained German Shepherds, completed 10 weeks of intensive training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. The dogs will continue their training over the next several months in their new surroundings.

The Transportation Security Administration-owned dogs are paired with Airport Bureau Police Officers Ty Cathers and Melina Walker. Sky Harbor now has eight K-9 teams patrolling Airport facilities.
