Councilman Tom Simplot has scheduled a candlelight vigil at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, at Cielito Park, 3402 W. Campbell Ave. to honor the memory Maurice “Melissa” Green, who was fatally shot as he walked northbound on 35th and Glenrosa avenues on March 21, 2006.
The community is invited to attend the vigil, which is located a few blocks from where Green was shot. Fliers will be distributed throughout the area in hopes of generating new leads for the unsolved case. “The only way we can stop these crimes from happening is to show that Maurice’s murder is not forgotten, and that the killers will be brought to justice,” said Simplot, who also donated $1,000 of his own money as a reward for leads resulting in the arrest of the suspected killer.
If you know any details about the case, please contact Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS or toll free at 1-800-343-TIPS. A cash reward of $2,000 is being offered for information that leads to the arrest of the suspected killer. For more information about the vigil, contact Megan Schmitz with District 4 office at 602-262-4830.
