What’s invisible to the sight, deaf to the ears, and unknown to the average person? The answer may surprise you. It’s a homeless teenager. It used to be said, “Children should be seen and not heard.” Sadly, many homeless teens today are unseen and unheard. Who are they? They are the abused, troubled, neglected, and abandoned youth of our community. They cast a shadow, yet they are unrecognized by many. Without help, their shadow will fall on society and linger into adulthood.
That’s where Tumbleweed Center for Youth Development steps in. Since 1972, Tumbleweed has helped the Valley’s abused, neglected, abandoned, and homeless children, ages nine to 22. The non-profit organization needs your help in continuing to care for all the youth of our community.
Tumbleweed will hold its annual charity dinner on Thursday, May 24, at 6:30 p.m. at the Hilton Scottsdale Resort and Villas, 6333 N. Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale.
Phoenix Councilman Greg Stanton will be honored with the “Visionary Award” for his leadership, vision, and tireless effort on behalf of these most vulnerable youngsters. SRP will be recognized with the first “Champion of Hope Award” for its work as Tumbleweed’s corporate partner in providing its greatest resource – its employees who continuously build stronger communities throughout our state.
