The city of Phoenix won three awards at the local PRSA (Public Relations Society of America) Copper Anvil Awards ceremony this week. The awards recognize outstanding public relations programs in the Phoenix area.
The three city initiatives honored at the event were:
The "33 A Su Lado" telecasts emerged through a partnership between Univision Channel 33 and the city of Phoenix Public Information Office. The city secured six "33 A Su Lado" live informational telethon broadcasts in the 2006-07 fiscal year, covering issues such as fair housing rights, domestic violence prevention and the Head Start child development program. The Phoenix/Univision partnership is the only one of its kind between Univision and a governmental entity in the United States.
The “METH: don’t even start” public awareness campaign was created to warn Arizona’s youth of the dangers of crystal methamphetamine. Schools serving students from seventh to 12th grades throughout the state received copies of a “METH: don’t even start” video to show to students. The city's know99 and PHX 11 television stations produced the pieces, creating one video for middle school/junior high students and another for high school students. To view the videos, visit phoenix.gov/streaming or request a copy by calling 602-495-0314. The videos also are available at all Phoenix Public Library branches.
The city’s Spanish-language Web site, phoenix.gov en espaņol, includes all English news releases that are distributed and posted daily, information on the mayor and City Council members and an array of programs and services offered by the city. It also includes profiles of several city departments and campaigns. In addition, the Spanish-language home page mirrors identically the features and contents of the English-language phoenix.gov. The site receives more than 3,000 visits per month.
