Seventh Avenue Panels, Series 4, Debuts at First Fridays Art Walk

The Phoenix Office of Arts and Culture and Seventh Avenue Merchants Association (SAMA) will unveil new artwork and poetry in the streetscape panels at Seventh and Glenrosa avenues.

The panels display reproductions of original works created by Arizona artists and poets through the Office of Arts and Culture Public Art Program. This is the fourth collection of artwork exhibited in the panels, which were installed in May 2004 for use as an ongoing urban gallery.

The Seventh Avenue Streetscape public art project is Phase II of a collaboration between the Office of Arts and Culture, SAMA, ASU School of Architecture, local neighborhood groups and the city’s Street Transportation and Neighborhood Services departments. The full project, which won a 2004 Valley Forward Environmental Excellence Award, includes landscaping, transit shelters and other pedestrian amenities.

Artists whose work will be unveiled April 4 during First Fridays Art Walk are Eliza Gregory, Kermit Lee and Keith Stanton. The poets who will have their work displayed are Julie Hampton, Elizabyth Hiscox and Douglas Jones. Graphic designer Cameo Hill was involved in the layout of the poems and design of the background.

The poets will read their displayed poem and other works. Elizabyth Hiscox will read from 7:05 - 7:20 p.m., Douglas Jones will read from 7:30 - 7:45 p.m. and Julie Hampton will read from 7:55 - 8:10 p.m. Disc jockeys from the B3 Crew will spin music after the readings until 9 p.m.
