Phoenix Office of Arts and Culture Awards Grants to 79 Groups

The Phoenix Office of Arts and Culture has awarded $889,621 in grants to 79 nonprofit community organizations and schools for the 2008-09 fiscal year.

The grants will help the recipients fund a variety of activities, including artist residencies, workshops, performances, exhibits and festivals, and arts education.

In addition, $430,932 was awarded to 16 arts organizations to support their general operating costs. Those organizations include Actors Theater of Phoenix, Phoenix Art Museum, Phoenix Chorale, Phoenix Theater, Phoenix Symphony, and the Phoenix Boys Choir.

The organizations are required to match the grant amounts at least dollar-for-dollar.

The grants support projects and programs that serve nearly 2 million Phoenix-area residents annually. Organizations that received general operating support provide substantial outreach and educational programs to the community.
