Heart-healthy Workshops on Cardiac Conditioning Program and Reducing Cardiovascular Risk

A series of free, monthly heart-healthy workshops for older adults and the community are being presented by the city of Phoenix Human Services Department Senior Services Division and the Arizona Heart Institute.

A workshop on “Disease Management through the Cardiac Conditioning Program” will be presented at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, at the Paradise Valley Community Center, Room D 3, 17402 N. 40th St., offered by Kim Mostoller, cardiac rehabilitation manager at the Arizona Heart Institute.

Mostolle has provided patient care in all aspects of inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation. Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death among Americans. Exercise has been proven to have a beneficial effect on reducing cardiovascular risk factors including diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and other chronic illnesses.

Another workshop, “Reducing Cardiovascular Risk” will be offered at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, at the Devonshire Community Center, 2802 E. Devonshire Ave., Arts and Crafts Room, presented by Dr. David J. Caparrelli, a cardiovascular surgeon with the Arizona Heart Institute. Caparrelli will discuss lifestyle modification, disease prevention and screening, and other health maintenance topics to reduce one’s risk for cardiovascular disease.

Future presentations will include Stress Management; Heart Disease 101; and Risk Factors, Signs & Symptoms of Cardiovascular Disease. Space is limited on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, call 602-495-3785.
